Welcome to Travel Guide 2 New Zealand, the site about travel, tourism and vacations in New Zealand.

New Zealand is a country in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. The country consists of two large islands, known as the North Island and the South Island, as well as numerous smaller islands. New Zealand also incorporates the Cook Islands and Niue which are self governing nations in free association, Tokelau, which is a non-self governing colonial territory that is moving towards free association status, and the Ross Dependency, which is the region of Antarctica claimed by New Zealand.

Map of New Zealand As of the 2006 census, New Zealand had a population of 4,143,279. Approximately 1.3 million of New Zealand's population lives in the metropolitan area surrounding the country's largest city, Auckland. There are five other cities in New Zealand with populations of over 100,000 including the national capital, Wellington, as well as Christchurch, Dunedin, Hamilton and Tauranga. There are also of course many smaller cities too.

New Zealand has a modern developed economy. The economy is heavily dependent on international trade, especially of New Zealand's agricultural products, and exports account for over a quarter of the country's output. The most important export industries are agriculture, fishing, forestry and horticulture. In the past, New Zealand's exported many of its primary products to the United Kingdom, but since the UK joined the European Economic Community (forerunner of the European Union) in 1973, New Zealand has revised its trading and patterns, and the UK is only the 5th largest trading partner (after Australia, the United States, Japan and China).
