New Zealand Weather


Most of New Zealand has a temperate maritime climate. Extremes temperature are relatively unusually, and the the temperature normally falls between 0°C (32°F) and 30°C (86°F). There are however a few areas with unusual climates:
  • There are number of high mountains in both the North and South Islands, and these moutaineous experience cold temperatures and snow covering due to their elevation.

  • The Mackenzie Basin in the center of the South Island has a semi-arid climate, due to the rain shadow effect of the surrounding mountains.

  • The North Auckland peninsula, the closest part of the two main New Zealand islands to the equator, experiences a subtropical climate.
